I co-teach an ESE inclusion classroom. We serve students with many different needs but really all children need to move during the day and using stability balls as their chairs can help them move while also learning at the same time. Research has shown that using flexible seating, like the stability balls, has many positive effects on students. They especially help those with sensory processing disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or just a strong need to fidget. In 2003, a study was published in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy that discovered that students with ADHD, sitting on therapy balls improved behavior and legible word productivity. They concluded that students using ball chairs were able to sit still, focus, and write more words clearly.
