Based on their state assessment scores from last year, about 80 percent of my students are partially proficient or not proficient in reading for third grade. Their reading levels range from kindergarten to fifth grade. In order to achieve my goal of getting all of my students to at least the 50th percentile for reading to maximize their growth during our school year together, it is essential that I am implementing individualized learning plans for each student.
We need six Chromebooks and headsets to take them beyond the walls of our classroom as we study and read about different countries, communities, and cultures. The use of Chromebooks during our small group workstation blocks for ELA and Social Studies will equip my students with the technology to access programs that will meet them where they are at instructionally and monitor their progress. Moreover, it will give them the tools necessary to learn more about the world around them and study cultures they would otherwise not be exposed to.
I am requesting Chromebooks and headphones for my students so that they will have the resources necessary in order to be able to work on MobyMax, Brain-Pop and other educational sites during our daily workstation time. Furthermore, Chromebooks will allow my students to gain research skills using the Internet in the classroom to build their critical consciousness and thinking skills.
