Our students come from a dying town with very little funding and a town that stays alive through community help. It is a combination school because the dying town shut their school doors seven years ago. The transition of becoming one community has been really good. However, the dying town has really lost support because there aren't many activities held in that town. Our students come from primarily low to middle class families, but we also have some upper class families. Our school has brought these kids together and decided to take on "Problem-Based Learning" so the students could identify problems in the community and strive to solve them. The school requires the staff to make the project standard-based but there is very little funding for the project. We then have to turn to our parents and community to help fund our project and again, they are just trying to support their families. We have written a couple of grants but, so far, we have no funding.
