I teach reading to third and fourth grade students. These students have little confidence in their reading skills. They need help with learning basic phonics skills that they missed in their previous grades. Because of these needs, they struggle with comprehension and oral reading fluency. My students are Tier II and III readers, which means they are one or two grade levels below where they need to be on their reading ability. They don't like to read, and they have little confidence in their reading strategies. My school includes third, fourth, and fifth grade students. We have about 80% of our students receiving free or reduced meals, so we serve an extremely high number of students from low-income families. Our school works hard to help students make the gains they need and experience success in school.
