I am one of 2 teachers who have a behavior classroom in a Title I elementary school. The area of town in which many of my students live have empty lots that are littered with paraphernalia from the local drug houses. All my students have been removed from the regular ed classroom because of consistent misbehavior. Some of my students have been removed from their home school to attend my class. You see, mine is a behavior classroom in which many of my students have learning disabilities, ADHD, emotional disturbance, and some have Aspergers. The goal of my room is -- once their behavior is under control -- to return them to the regular classroom, and eventually their home school. This takes a great deal of direct instruction of social skills. Between the two classrooms, I work with 10-15 students on a daily basis.
