My class is made up of a diverse group of students. My students come from a community that has a high poverty and crime rate. Some kids come to me in September and do not know how to write their name. Many students lack support from home and their learning ends once they exit the school building. Regardless of each students' background, they all come to me with one similarity and that is the motivation to learn. When they are in the building this is my time to indulge them with educational activities that will help them to build literacy and math skills. Hands-on activities are a great tool that I use to keep them engaged. Students take part in center activities daily. This allows for me to provide small group instruction. In the beginning of the year most of my students will need letter recognition support.
