I have only been in the classroom for a few years, but within those years, one thing remained a constant: the drive for learning through exploration and hands-on materials. I work with special needs students in a low-income school who thrive on manipulatives and need that contact to combine visual and verbal cues. By giving my students a number of venues with which to express their knowledge, including visual, verbal and tactile, I can be sure to enhance their learning from every level. My school has a wonderful support staff for our special needs population. My goal is to offer and extend those same supports within my own classroom to better serve my students.
