The specimen set and bug blocks will allow the students to explore organisms that they could not otherwise see or touch. The Ladybug Land, Ant farm, Butterfly larva and tree cookies will be used to teach about living things and what they need. The Lakeshore counting boxes will used for small groups and independent work for our students to increase their math sense as they use them for counting, sorting, learning about patterns and capacity. These materials will help our students increase their knowledge of the world and the environment beyond the classroom. The book collections will be used to make the literacy connection to both math and science. In addition to improving their awareness of simple machines and living and non-living organisms, interactions with these materials will encourage students to increase their oral language as they discuss their observations and experiences.
