I have been teaching Ceramics at NMHS for 5 years. I have worked hard to grow the program and make the art of clay accessible to students of all abilities. My students are amazing creative people, many who have never had an art class because there is no K-12 Art in NUSD. Through my instruction and their exploration, they are developing higher level thinking skills, problem solving and an appreciation for the Arts. My classes are packed with 35 students in each class (6 to a table). We have the basics (clay left over from last year, some glazes, and tools). We are always struggling to get the supplies we need for so many students. Last year, with my own money and a grant I upgraded our display case with shelving and lights so students can proudly display their work. We call it Gallery 449. We look forward to filling it with art this year.
