I teach Elementary Art at two public schools in Jersey City. I have a classroom at my home school where I teach 3 days a week. 2 days a week I teach from a cart at a different school in the same neighborhood. I appreciate having my own room and rise to the challenge of teaching 'art-on-cart.' Most of my inner city students come from economically disadvantaged families. Many students struggle to learn English as their second language or have documented learning disabilities. I sympathize with students who struggling in school because I also struggled, and like them I did well in art because I was encouraged to problem solve and think differently rather than recalling the correct answer. By teaching art I hope to encourage students to problem solve and think creatively as well as improve self confidence, fine motor and craft skill, and develop their appreciation of hard work, dedication, and artistic ability.
