My students are primarily minorities. The school is 65% minority students, most of whom are Hispanic. I have a wide range of special education, English language learners, Gifted/Talented and those with no labels but whom are still very important to me. My students are active members in the school community. Many are involved in groups such as AFJROTC, band, NHS, and varsity athletics. All students have chosen to take my class because of an interest in Aquatic Science. For some students they see a future career in marine biology, while others enjoying fishing for recreation. The public school covers a very economically diverse area and has a student population that is 35% economically disadvantaged. The school is very focused on doing what is best for students. The school encourages innovated ideas for increasing student engagement in the curriculum, while still improving student success.
