While photography itself is a very old visual art, digital photography and digital art is fairly new. However, it is very much a large part of the world our students currently live in. Taking pictures, editing photos and learning to manipulate images on the computer are essentially an every day part of my students' lives. I believe that many of my students would be very interested in learning about digital photography and how to edit and manipulate images on the computer. They currently have no way to express themselves through this form of technology in our elementary visual arts program. My goal is to introduce students to the world of digital photography and photo manipulation. I will do this through teaching students how to use a digital camera, upload photos to the computer and use photo editing software to edit or manipulate photos in artistic ways. There are so many possibilities for digital photography in an art room. I feel like without this, students are missing an opportunity to express themselves through digital media.
