Due to the pandemic, many students have not developed the ability to sit and focus on a task without outside sensory input (like from a piece of technology) -- or they are overwhelmed with the classroom environment and need ways to retreat or remove themselves from the extra stimulation. Giving them tools to adapt to the demands of the modern kindergarten classroom will help them be successful in EVERY standard, from ELA to math to social studies. Some of my students are unable to or unlikely to succeed in a standards-based sense without some additional supports. I want to meet them where they are developmentally and expand their options for success; these tools will also allow the students who ARE ready for school to learn more successfully if their peers are appropriately engaged. Some of our items are for students who struggle to sit in a traditional desk/chair set-up. This includes the wiggle stools, the adjustable standing desk, the bean bag chair, the bounce desk chair, and the chair bands. Some of our items are for reducing sensory input for my easily overstimulated students including the light covers and the noise-canceling headphones. Some of our other items are for providing a sensory outlet for students who are struggling to maintain attention. These include the weighted vest and lap pad, as well as the fidget toys, gel packs, and chew necklaces. Last, the slant board is for students who struggle to write on a flat surface for a variety of issues, from struggles with fine motor to vision issues.
