Our school is a diverse, loving, economically challenged, warm, philanthropic, stable and stubborn rural elementary school. The community relies on farming, therefore, we have many migrant families. These families migrate with the tomato and strawberry harvests from Tennessee to Florida. Our students are with us year after year from August to December. These students work along side their families at home and are helpers in the field. They have developed a work ethic at school that is second to none. I would like to capitalize on this amazing work ethic by providing in my classroom, technology, such as laptops, so these students can reach the standards of their non-migrant students. Although they have challenges, they have a desire and drive to squeeze every drop of opportunity while they are at school.
