I work in a New York City school that is designated for students with special needs. In my class I have 6 students ranging in ages 4-6, who are diagnosed with autism and multiple disabilities. My students are eager and ready to learn, but sometimes need extra support in the form of sensory activities. Each day in my classroom, I try to give my students time to experience different sensory activities such as sensory balls, pop tubes, and homemade play dough. My students need a variety of hands-on sensory activities to help them focus and learn. Each child has a different way of learning, and I believe it is important to give all of my students an outlet for their extra energy! My goal for my classroom is to have the ability to create a sensory area where my students can go and complete hands-on activities. It is necessary for the students in my class to have time each day where they can take a break, relax, and receive sensory integration.
