My kiddos are primarily Hispanic and African-American. They come from a rather impoverished neighborhood. I can't say enough about how wonderful my students are. They can be difficult but, that just makes those aha-moments even better. It is not uncommon for the life skills that we teach in the classroom to be the only exposure they ever truly get. This is why exposing them to healthy ways to problem solve is so very important. Our school is a charter school and has been serving this community for almost 20years now. We are a k-8 center, while I personally teach 4th grade.
