My second graders are coming from 80% poverty line. They will never have a chance like this to hear a world-renowned author read to them and ask them questions about her new book, "There is a Girl Headed to the White House". This is a story about empowering young women which is exactly what our school's demographic needs and what a better time in history than now?! As an educator, she recognizes the value of representation in literature. . She is on a journey to help children see themselves in literature. She is inspired by the mere thought that Senator Harris is the vice president elect at a time when we need a strong voice. Her hope is that one day, winning will be the norm for all cultures, races, genders, religions, ages, and backgrounds. She send out an order form. If the hosts gets 20 or more book orders, they will receive a signed copy of the book and activity book for free. The book is an awesome resource for ELA, SS, and Reading lessons. I would be glad to share a sample lesson from educator Kelly Wilson.
