My 2nd grade classroom is full of eager students who are excited to continue the skills they learned in first grade and thirsty to soak up the skills that lie before them in 2nd grade. They are sons and daughters of blue-collared workers who sacrifice luxuries to make sure their children have what they need. Our school is located in a suburb of a city that once thrived on success of steel mills. With the fall of such factories, many families live pay check to pay check. These families take pride in their hard work and praise hard work from their children. Often students in our school are not exposed to the latest technology simply because their families must spend their money on necessities, and afterward there isn't much disposable income to spend on computers, the Internet, and other devices. Outside of school, most of our students get access to computers and the internet by visiting our local town library, which also has a limited budget.
