There are five hard-working, determined students in my eighth grade classroom this year. All of the boys have been diagnosed with autism and have complex learning and behavioral needs. I am inspired daily by my students, as they never let their disabilities interfere with their ability to succeed both at school and in the world beyond. They have made tremendous progress over the past year, and are ready to tackle some "ready-learner" skills that will enable them to best access their education across classes, teachers, and contexts. For example, my students are working really hard to develop on-task behaviors, follow teacher directions, and stay safe throughout the school day. I have worked closely with our classroom's behavior analyst to develop Behavior Support Plans for each of my students and am eager to begin targeting these skills this Fall! My students and I are surrounded by an accepting, loving school community that offers its overwhelming support every day!
