I am a 9th grade Health and PE Teacher; my school is located in a very rural area of eastern NC approximately 60 miles east of Raleigh. The classes I teach are of mixed gender and races. I teach three 90 minute classes, with an average of 18 students per class. We are a regular high public school; our total school population is a little over 700 students. Approximately 20% of our students live at or below poverty level; our racial diversity is 46% African American, 44% Caucasian, 8% Hispanic &1% Other. Our school's mission statement states "We will prepare students to be productive members of the 21st century global economy through technological innovation in the learning environment, opportunities to apply problem-solving skills, and occasions to practice teamwork dynamics." Our school has done well at improving technology access to all students; however, in the PE department we are in desperate need of portable devices, such as iPads, to gauge & track student growth.
