This is an interdisciplinary project built around the story of William Kamkwamba - The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. In physics and engineering, students will learn about energy transfer and efficiency, and attempt to engineer their own wind-powered cell phone charger. Students' energy measurements in physics class will inform their design revisions in engineering as they build successively more complex turbine designs. For example, by upgrading to a more powerful generator, they'll also deal with increased friction. How can you redesign your fins so that the generator shaft still turns?
