The population at my school is 87% African American; 10.5% are students with disabilities and 97% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Many of the students with whom I work, both special needs and general education, are two to three grades behind in mathematics and reading. My students face challenges both inside and outside the classroom as they face the challenges that are directly aligned with their socioeconomic status. It is my goal to ignite a desire to not only want to learn math, but to love it as well.
