My students are the children of working class parents. They say things like, " Dad is leaving for 3 weeks to work out-of-town or Mom leaves before I get up so I have to get me and my little brother ready for the bus". We are in a small, rural setting. The kids fish, hunt and play outside. Our school is small, roughly 300 students. We know each of the kids by name. Our principal knows who you are even if you do NOT get in trouble. Most of the kids are involved in extra-curricular activities: athletics, band, student council. Our students have manners and are respectful. We expect this and we model this behavior with them and each other.
