My students make up a wide variety of skill levels and ability backgrounds. My school is located in a rural community, and many students come from lower middle class families. A portion of the students are learning English at school, and are the only ones in their homes who speak English at all. We also have a high population of students with Autism; these students are integrated into the regular classroom for instruction and extracurricular activities. Both of these populations of students benefit most from personalized reading instruction tailored to their individual reading skill deficits and areas of specific instructional need. When this type of instruction is implemented within the regular education classroom, all students show growth in their reading fluency and comprehension skills by the end of the school year.
