My students live in a neighborhood where over 96% of students come from low income families. Despite the many challenges they face, my students should feel like all their dreams and wishes can and will come true. The dramatic play area in our classroom is the perfect place for students to learn through exploration and role playing. This is where children learn how to communicate with others, and watch themselves take on the role of what they one day hope to become. While I tell my children daily they can be anything they want to be, there is nothing more satisfying for a 3 or 4 year old to look in the mirror and see themselves dressed as a doctor, policeman, or business man or woman. At their age, costumes are like magic because they feel truly transformed. I cannot use words as a substitute for the type of satisfaction my students will receive from dramatic play materials.
