Students feeling like they fit into a group is a big deal, and every student should feel like they fit into their school community. Starting a news and announcement program will allow the 5th and 6th graders to lead the rest of the school by showing them how they fit into the bigger picture. They will be able to see how their effort, actions, and achievements help shape our school community. This will increase their buy-in and the accountability they feel for their school, as well as how their individual accountability affects the larger school community. This green screen kit and MacBook will allow the older students to write, record, anchor, edit, and produce their own News and Announcement content that can be shared with the rest of the school. This will open up new ways to engage in every academic area as students will be interviewing, showing and reporting on things that are going on in and outside of each classroom. Teachers and students will be able to suggest content and events that the 5th and 6th Graders can cover in their programming to include everyone in the school. This will lead to students not only knowing more about their school community but feeling more accountable for it as well. This will directly affect how they interact with each other and how they see their own importance in all areas of the community socially and academically. The green screen kit will help the students create content unique and personalized for their school community and the MacBook will allow them a device that comes with software needed to produce this content. They will develop production and editing skills using the iMovie software as they create content focused on other students interests, achievements and activities.
