I teach the Resource Specialist Program. I teach students in grades 1, 2 and 3 who are in the general education classroom, but need extra support in meeting the grade level standards. My students are truly amazing! I discuss what their goal(s) is/are, make a chart of it, and each day we review how we worked toward the goal. The students love to chart their progress, because they can see that they are making improvements. They love seeing their progress because it gives them confidence when returning to the general ed. class. We are a Title 1 school, about 70% of students are impoverished. The English Language Learner population for Students With Disabilities (SWD) is about 50%. Our Annual Performance Indicator (API) on the California Standards Test for SWD was 749, only 51 points shy of all students being proficient. Our district's overall API for SWD was 572, and California's was 669. This shows the efforts my program makes to ensure my students are making great progress!
