There is great diversity in my class. Three of my students have no problems communicating with adults or peers. One student is verbal, but does not have good conversational skills. Two students are nonverbal. Other issues we deal with in class are physical, social, and functional. Together we work to improve academic skills, and to become as independent as possible. In our class we focus on treating each other with respect and dignity. Each lesson focuses on each child's learning style, and differentiated learning is a key to success. The majority of students at our high school are wonderful to our students in the significantly disabled classes. During the five years that I have taught at this school, I have observed truly amazing acts of kindness. My students are active participants in the daily activities of high school life.
