This year we are focusing on building community and family within our classes and the school. This project will include all of the students at school, as well as the faculty and staff. We are doing this as a way to promote kindness and build confidence through the arts and academics. On campus in a community area, we have the perfect space for a kindness garden. We would like to paint rocks and repurpose signs with kind and inspirational sayings to help students stay focused, build confidence, and take pride in beautification of their campus and community. The students will use the kindness garden as a tool to show kindness, compassion, and empathy. They will use the kindness garden as a way to take pride in their campus and community and understand that a random and simple act of kindness can go a long way. This is also a good way for students to learn about collaborative art projects, community art projects, and how the different Elements of Art and Principles of Design can be a part of something other than just drawing and painting. It is a great introduction to many different art elements, especially considering the students haven’t had an art program in a really long time.
