The materials and supplies I am requesting are necessary for the process of learning with students who have disabilities. Students with identified learning disabilities are perfectly capable of learning core, foundational skills for reading and math. However, they require additional practice and hands-on materials to grasp and fully understand concepts. Concepts are best introduced and practiced with “hands-on”, concrete materials. For example, knowing one-digit facts is important, but working with paper and pencil it is difficult for students with learning disabilities to master. Using snapping cubes, touching and moving materials will provide understanding of basic math facts. Flipping phonics books and writing letters with white boards will provide concrete opportunities for learning in the foundations of reading. I truly need your support to provide this hands on environment for learning.
