My students come from a rural farming community. We are a small district with few resources, especially for technology. I have one older computer in my classroom for student use, and it frequently doesn't work. My school is a Title One school, which means that over 40% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Many of my students come from families who do not speak English as their first language, and quite a few other students are from families who have experienced poverty because of the economic downturn. We are a district and a community of limited resources. In addition, every year I have a handful of highly capable students whose needs are also not being met. This is a precious resource that we cannot afford to neglect.
