This will be my first year teaching and I am thrilled to dive in headfirst and begin teaching the active and joyful kiddos that will soon be known as "Mrs. Ter Louw's first graders!" Although I haven't met any of my students yet, I know my first grade classroom will be very diverse. My elementary school is a Title 1 school with about 80% of our students on free or reduced lunch. My school is just outside of a large metropolitan area, so the majority of our students come from lower income homes. With those statistics, I am aware that many of my students will face difficult factors 6 and 7 year olds shouldn't have to face. Despite those outside factors, I am determined my classroom will be a place students know they are cared for, believed in, and capable of great things!
