Our school is part of a small community located in the mountains of North Carolina. We are 100% title I funded, with all students receiving free breakfast and lunch. My students are vivacious, hungry, giggly, sad, happy, hurt, loved, beaten, hugged, illiterate, and literate. Some students just need a little confidence, some may need a hug and others may just need an ear to listen. But whatever the reason, when they are in my classroom they know they are safe and loved. They can face challenges when learning because of their everyday needs or because of the things they have encountered. As a teacher, however, I strive to help them know that no matter where they came from or what obstacle they face, they can be successful in life.
