Research has shown that hands-on, tactile activities help children learn new concepts. In a normal school year, I would have my students moving around the room using chalk, water pens, shaving cream, magnetic letters, and whiteboards to practice letters and sight words. This pandemic has made it difficult to use the same techniques. For many of my kindergartners, this is their first experience with school. Working virtually doesn't allow us to do many of the fun activities that are part of my classroom routine. By donating to this project, you will be allowing my students to take a little piece of the classroom home with them. We will use these boards to manipulate letters to build and practice sight words that will start the children on their life-long journey as readers. The combination magnetic whiteboard gives them another way to practice letters and sight words. Reading opens the doors to endless possibilities in one's life. Funding this project will help me teach my students the foundations of reading. The first step in providing them with the keys to a bright future!
