I have some of the sweetest students with humble beginnings. We live in a rural community where agriculture surrounds us. Most families work in the fields in hard labor. Most of the time families don't understand the importance of higher education. They have good intentions, but don't promote education in their homes. Our school is 98% ELL students. Academic Language is limited. All the students in our school receive free school breakfast, lunch, and even dinner. We struggle moving our students out of the basic band. They need to be enriched with vocabulary and higher educational goals.
