My students come from a variety of backgrounds. We are a bilingual school in Washington, D.C. Some students enter Pre-Kindergarten speaking no English while others enter speaking no Spanish. Many come from families of recent immigrants to the United States who are looking to create a better future for their children. We are also a Title I school, and the majority of our students receive free or reduced price lunch given the lack of resources their families have at home. Regardless of their background, my students enter school with a determination to learn and a deep curiosity of the world around them. They are eager to explore things as small an insect digging in the dirt and things as large as trees that tower over them. Each family wants their child to build a solid foundation of interpersonal, problem-solving, math and literacy skills so they can maximize their potential.
