My students are mostly from low income families. They are minorities and deserve the comforts of students from upper income families. Our school is a failing school. If I can help my students starting in Kindergarten, then they will have a better chance to not get behind. These students come to me feeling as if they are not deserving of the best. Forcing them to sit on dirty, smelly floors teaches them that we as teachers don't feel that they deserve the best. I want my students to understand that they deserve so much more than what I can provide on my own.
