As a magnet school for the arts, our school was rated as the number one high school out of 116 local public schools in 2007 by Children at Risk, a nonprofit organization. All students at our school spend 3 hours in their art area during the school day and then stay after school almost every day for practices and performances. For the theater students, this translates to hundreds of hours working not only as actors but also in crew or technical theater. The technical theater students need equipment to run that will engage them in the shows and provide them with opportunities for personal growth. Our school has proven that getting kids engaged in the arts can get them engaged in school. The graduation rate at our school is 98.6%.
