My students are in many ways just like all 9- and 10-year-olds. They enjoy incorporating technology into everything they can in the classroom. We use a SmartBoard for many lessons so that we can use images from the web, stories from other students, and, of course, it allows students to write and create on the very same board. My students are also in an urban setting. I have students that come from single parent homes, and some even live with relatives. There are students that get temporarily placed in foster homes, as well as those considered homeless. In many ways my students have had to mature well before most children. Some take care of siblings after school because their parents need the help and cannot afford any other options. Please consider helping my students become ready for college and their careers ahead.
