Self assessment and reflection is key to our student centered learning classroom. At the beginning of the year, students set a goal for themselves to work on throughout the year. Throughout the year, students reflect on their goal. They reflect on their progress, their success, and their challenges. In the past year, student achievement in our 3rd grade classroom has improved when students were given the opportunity to plan and reflect on their learning. While students are given multiple ways to reflect including photos and journaling, most students prefer to reflect with video because of the ease and because they love to watch themselves. Headphones with microphones will allow students the ability to record their reflections. This will help to limit the interruptions and background noise in their videos that they currently struggle with.
