Purposeful play allows young learners to explore the world around them. As children work in each center, they will be learning a variety of skills. For example, while playing in science and discovery children will be making investigations and observations. Children will use the magnetic wands with chips to experiment with the properties of magnets and see what attracts and repels them. The children will use the outdoor science kit and animal sets to explore and experience the wonders of nature. Children will learn team-building skills, use their imagination, mathematical skills, and learn to take turns. In the construction area, having the train set and the wooden building blocks will allow them to build on these skills. As children work together they will further develop high levels of self-confidence, self-esteem, empathy, and compassion. Using the counting bears, brain flakes and link ā€œnā€ learn links students will be building on their mathematical and logical thinking skills. During dramatic play, children will be learning about community and family roles. Children will re-enact taking care of other people when they use the baby dolls and accessories. As children participate in the area of the creative arts they will have experiences with a variety of media when they use the playdough tools, stencils, scissors, and alphabet stamps. This will help them to learn to cooperate, share materials, and express appreciation for each other's work.
