My kiddos are an amazing group of students who come from diverse backgrounds and are eager and ready to learn. We are an urban, charter, language immersion school, supporting children mostly from the city of St. Louis; yet students come from more than 30 zip codes across the metropolitan area to study with us. Over 60% of our students qualify for free and reduced price meals. Funds are in short supply, but they are dispensed judiciously to support our growing community. Throughout the week, I see an average of 135 students from third, fourth, and fifth grades. We have high expectations for all our children; knowing this, they aim high and work hard to achieve their goals. To enrich the classroom experience, students need a way to read books together, explore new materials, and develop research projects.
