My school is a lower elementary building with about 300 students. Our district's state funding has decreased by $1,664,349 in the last four years. Teachers are given $150 per year to restock classroom materials which means I have to get very creative with finding ways to get what my students need. My students are from a small community that has been hit hard by recession in the past ten years. The local factory jobs have vanished and many parents are out of work. Still, the children come to school each day completely sure that they can be anything they want and do anything they envision. My hope is that my students leave my classroom with that same confidence.
