My first graders come from all types of families, homes and backgrounds. Some have special needs, some have challenging home lives, and some are hungry. They are all 6 or 7, a magical age where imagination can open doors. They come together in our classroom, where we learn to work, play and become students. Our school is struggling to get back on its feet after state- and district-level cuts have devastated our resources. Our families, some struggling with day-to-day expenses, cannot fulfill the budget shortfalls that we are left with, no matter how many Spell-a-thons or candy sales we hold! We want our students to grow and learn in a well-rounded, challenging and inspiring environment.

About my class
