My students are classified as 'At-Risk' general education high-school students, Their reading and math levels are approximately 3-5 grade levels behind. My students are afforded an opportunity to obtain a High School diploma in which they would find difficult if remained in a traditional classroom setting. My students display Psycho-social and educational barriers that can be mitigated through individualized, hands-on, project-based learning. They learn how to collaborate with others, job-skills, problem-solving skills and perseverance. My school is locate in the inner-city and is 99.9% reduced lunch. Majority of the school population has not been outside of their neighborhoods. Students are eager to learn but face many barriers to learning. My class buffers those factors and replaces it with success factors where students can gain hope and self-confidence to spread their wings to evolve.
