I teach 11th-12th grade AP Environmental Science students, and run a club called SPLASH (Students Protecting Land and Sea Habitats). We are in Florida, and are able to grow vegetables most of the year. Last year was the first year that gardening (hydroponics) has been at our school. Most of the students have never been to a garden, grown their own food, or even tasted fresh vegetables. One student didn't know what okra was. He ended up liking it so much, that he built a small hydroponic garden in his own backyard for growing only okra and tomatoes. He also built one for his neighbor. The teachers were also excited about what we were doing, and asking for vegetables, too. We don't have many local markets in the area. This small greenhouse has impacted a lot of people.
