There are approximately 330 students enrolled at my small urban high school and, as the only foreign language teacher, every single one of them gets to spend two semesters with me. I have juniors for Spanish I in the fall and seniors in the spring for Spanish II. What we lack in racial diversity (98% of our students are African American), we certainly make up for in learning diversity. I teach a very wide range students, from those who are intellectually disabled to those who may be considered gifted and talented, often in the same class. Regardless of their abilities, my students achieve at high levels and are eager to learn more. I am very lucky to be at a school where I believe the students truly care about their education. They haven't always had the best teachers, the best facilities or the best materials, but this has not kept them from striving to get the best education possible. They chose to attend our high school and it shows.
