My 3rd graders are from a school that has mostly free-and-reduced lunch recipients. As a special education teacher (and former occupational therapy assistant), I work with students ranging from well-below grade level to far beyond. Others in my care have disabilities (physical, emotional, and academic). Our school has a resource room for such students, but many of the 3rd graders from this room often work with me for most of the day. For the past few years, I have had around 30 students in my classroom, with very little adult help. This presents a challenge, and costs a lot more than the $100 I am given for the school year. My students enjoy reading chapter books. Listening to the audio version provides me with some assistance, so that I am able to better circulate the room and assist students as needed. I am hopeful that I might be able to get this project completely funded. I appreciate it so much. My students will too!
