Our elementary school is a title 1 school, meaning at least 80 percent of its enrolled students come from low-income families. It serves 880 students. At our school, we instill the passion to learn, the value of diversity, and the importance of perseverance. We encourage students to be respectful, responsible, and independent so that they become self-sufficient, contributing adults in their community. I work with 12 third to fifth grade students with various moderate to severe special needs. One third of my students depend on alternative forms of communication in order to express their wants and needs. My students all have a wide range of abilities as well as areas of need. Like many of their peers, my students are fascinated with technology and are motivated to learn when an Ipad is involved.
