Imagine sitting in a room full of colleagues listening to a lesson that is overwhelming and confusing; and then realizing that you are the only one who feels that way. When the lesson is over you approach the teacher to clarify it and they don't have the resources to do so. I am a first grade teacher who is all too aware that it happens everyday in my classroom. Working in a high needs community means that I will have students coming to me that have many different learning levels. I have students who have no parental support or resources and come to me to learn for the first time and students who have parental support to achieve at the expected level of a first grader. I have been working at my school for two years now and have experienced the woes of a smaller budget each year, which in turn creates a larger gap between the students in my school and the students in the surrounding suburban schools.
